The name of tropical cyclones

A hurricane ‘Katrina’ is raging over the USA.
At lunch time, we talked about hurricanes and how to call those.
As you know, hurricanes are named after person’s name.
I thought those name are exclusively women’s, but it's wrong.

As it sounded interesting, I checked via the Internet.
I found it much more interesting than I expected.
According to certain HP, the first use of a name for a hurricane was
by Australian weather forecaster early in the 20th century.
He gave a hurricane names after political figures whom he disliked.
Nowadays, hurricanes are named to provide ease of communication
between forecasters and the general public regarding forecasts, watches, and warnings.

From here, I quote from the HP of
The Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML).
If you find it interesting, you should visit the following URL by all means.
http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/tcfaqB.html

During World War II, tropical cyclones were informally given women's names
by US Army Air Corp and Navy meteorologists (after their girlfriends or wives)
who were monitoring and forecasting tropical cyclones over the Pacific.
From 1950 to 1952, tropical cyclones of the North Atlantic Ocean were identified
by the phonetic alphabet (Able-Baker-Charlie-etc.),
but in 1953 the US Weather Bureau switched to women's names.
In 1979, the WMO and the US National Weather Service (NWS) switched to
a list of names that also included men's names.

しかし、1953年にはアメリカのWeather Bureau(気象庁みたいなもんか?)

Huh huh huh

A list means all of future hurricanes have already named.
You can see a list which men’s name and women’s name line turn about.
And also you can see ‘Katrina’ in 2005 table of Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea area.
http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/B2.html

I have more interesting story, but that would make this topic too long.
So I will write that tomorrow.
Guess what?
